And I Look at the Nearby City
“And I Look at the Nearby City” is an educational and performative event dedicated to exploring local contexts held in the DCCC on July 27 (2024).
Through various formats, the event invites participants to reflect on the significance of the environments surrounding us. What do we call home? How do cities shape us, and how do we, in turn, influence them? Is there room for local identity in a globalized world? And most importantly, how vital is it to stay connected to our native cities and places today?
This event delves into the inseparable ties to land, loss, proximity, and our relationships with space. Much of the program centers on Dnipro—a city that has been home to us and our work for many years.
The program included:
— Discussions on local identity and the culture of Dnipro.
— Theater performance: “Rainbow on Saltivka” by NAFTA Theater.
— Art performance by artist Olha Marusyn.
— Film screening: “Dnipro in Concrete” accompanied by live music from Dnipro sound artists.
— Presentation of the printed journal POMIZH about Dnipro.
— Pop-up exhibition and discussion with participants of the Imaginary City residency.
— Performance workshops for children and teenagers by Artsvit for Kids.
“And I Look at the Nearby City” is part of the We Are Open program, supported by the USAID project UCBI: Ukraine Confidence Building Initiative.
