About Us

Kultura Medialna is a non-governmental organization that emerged as an independent grassroots initiative.

Since 2013, we have been working at the intersection of culture and activism, creating projects dedicated to the cultural and urban development of Dnipro, with a focus on contemporary art, media, and informal education.

Focus of Work

Currently, Kultura Medialna focuses its projects on themes of memory, local identity, reflection on wartime experience, the contexts of Dnipro, the role of culture in community development, and the establishment of international cooperation.

In recent years, the organization has been strengthening Dnipro's ties with its sister cities, viewing the concept of twinning as a tool for building resilient partnerships at the grassroots level, beyond state and municipal institutions.

Kultura Medialna also actively contributes to shaping the city's cultural policy by initiating the development of the Dnipro Cultural Development Strategy. We are convinced that culture is not only a means of entertainment and education but also a vital tool for social transformation in times of crisis.

Projects

Kultura Medialna’s core projects include: the Dnipro Center for Contemporary Culture (DCCC), the contemporary art and experimental music festival Construction, the media outlet and print magazine POMIZH, and the public space Stage, which has received several international architectural awards.

The organization's largest and most central project—the Dnipro Center for Contemporary Culture—is a revitalization project of a historic building in the city center, transforming it into a hub for cultural development, international cooperation, creative industries, and intercultural dialogue.

Following the full-scale Russian invasion throughout 2022, the DCCC operated as a social hub for IDPs and city residents. In 2023, the institution returned to its primary institutional activities.

Goal

Our goal is to make life in Dnipro more comfortable and to strengthen the city's connections with the world through culture.

Kultura Medialna continues to support and develop the city's cultural infrastructure under the conditions of full-scale war.

Operating 100 kilometers from the front line under regular Russian missile and drone strikes, our team continuously implements cultural and educational programs, supports artists and practitioners from frontline regions, and contributes to the development of Dnipro's cultural landscape.
