Residency for young artists 2023

From July 20 to August 6, a residency for young artists was hosted at DCCC, bringing together artists, photographers, performers, and other cultural figures who are embarking on their creative journeys.

The residency welcomed artists aged between 18 to 25, who were invited to participate. Out of over 80 applications received, 10 participants were selected to take part in the program.

The primary objective of the residency was to provide support to emerging artists, offering them opportunities to share experiences and receive advice crucial for launching their creative careers. Accomplished artists, curators, and cultural experts conducted sessions on various topics, including applying for residencies, navigating institutional collaborations, initiating personal projects, and establishing a professional artistic identity.

Over the course of almost three weeks, participants engaged in lectures, workshops, and discussions with prominent cultural figures. They delved into the cultural nuances of Dnipro, exploring local contexts and discussing topics such as the cultural ethos of Prydniprovʼia, grassroots activism, self-organized spaces, and the prospects available to artists both within Ukraine and internationally. As a culminating project, the participants collaborated to produce their own zine featuring diverse artistic expressions.

The residency program was organized by Kultura Medialna in partnership with Artsvit Gallery, generously supported by the New Democracy Fund and the Danish Cultural Institute.
