Date: 2014 – 2016.
Kyiv Dialogue, a German-Ukrainian discussion and experience sharing platform, unites luminaries from politics, media and civil society in Germany and Ukraine, thus contributing to Ukraine’s democratic development. Established immediately after the Orange Revolution in 2005, Kyiv Dialogue partnered in 2014 with the International Renaissance Foundation, opening representative offices in Kharkiv, Odesa, Dnipro and Cherkasy which housed a number of public discussions covering socially significant topics. The Kyiv Dialogue is managed by Berlin and Kyiv.
In 2014-2016 Kultura Medialna acted as the regional platform partner in Dnipro, with the project coordinated by Zoya Krasovska and Julia Ovcharenko. The platform held over 20 discussion events (platform discussions, roundtables and presentations) in Dnipro with the involvement of Ukrainian and foreign experts.
Over the period of 2017 to 2019 there were eight representative offices operating in Dnipro, Cherkasy, Kharkiv, Sloviansk, Mariupol, Mykolayiv, Odesa and Lviv. The project covered small towns in the regions. Julia Ovcharenko was coordinating the project independently of Kultura Medialna NGO.
The project’s support to involved local residents included exchange of contacts, methodology knowledge, experience of Ukrainian and European experts so that the citizens would fully participate in local democracy. Within the new period active residents learnt to change public space, participate independently in decision-making and help their towns grow. There was also a small grants competition for urban planning ideas. The purpose of that is to promote social cohesion, community rapport, improvement of urban environment and identification of solutions for the specific problems of local communities by providing assistance to local public initiatives.
